The mother of IAS aspirant Puja Khedkar hid in a shelter as "Indubhai" using a fake identity card.
Manorama Khedkar was arrested this morning from the premises in connection with a video that went viral in which she was seen brandishing a firearm and threatening some villagers.
Police are on the hunt for her. Sources told NDTV that Manorama Khedkar, mother of IAS aspirant Puja Khedkar, used a fake Aadhaar card to secure a room in a hostel in Raigad district of Maharashtra. She had hired a private taxi to reach the accommodation and was living there with the taxi driver, who introduced himself as her son, police officials added.
Manorama Khedkar was arrested this morning from the premises in connection with a video that went viral in which she was seen brandishing a firearm and threatening some villagers over a land dispute. She has been booked on multiple charges, including attempt to murder. A Pune court remanded her in police custody for two days.
Several police teams were searching for Manorama Khedkar and her husband Dilip Khedkar, an accomplice in the case linked to the viral video. Dilip Khedkar is yet to be arrested.
"Manorama had hired a private taxi and came to the hotel. She was staying there with the taxi driver and had introduced him as her son," a senior police official told . "She had used a fake identity card showing she was Indubhai. We tracked her using GPS and took her into custody at the lodge," a police official said. CCTV cameras outside the hut recorded Manorama Khedkar being taken away in a police vehicle and later taken to Pune for arrest.

She had hired a private taxi to reach the cottage and was living there with the taxi driver, who introduced himself as her son, the police official added.

The video that landed Manorama Khedkar in hot water came out during an argument over her 34-year-old daughter Puja Khedkar. The 2023 batch IAS officer was in the headlines a few weeks ago when Pune-based Collector Suhas Diwase wrote to Maharashtra Principal Secretary Sujata Saunik, laying out several demands which he was not entitled to during his probationary period.
This complaint set off a chain of events that led to a shocking revelation. Questions have been raised as to how she cleared the UPSC's arduous selection process as it was found that she had availed relief on the grounds of physical disability and OBC candidacy, raising allegations that she was not entitled to such relief.
