Some are hurting after a third election defeat': Congress PM

In Parliament, the Opposition is strong again and determined to make its voice heard. And that's what Prime Minister Narendra Modi tried to do today when she rose to respond to the President's thanks for his speech. The alleged reason was that the Prime Minister's speech was being delivered at a time when representatives of a nation torn apart by violence wanted to speak.

When some Congress MPs began to protest against Speaker Om Birla's refusal, the issue was taken up by the remaining Opposition MPs and soon boos and slogans rang out in Parliament House.

As the Prime Minister began to speak, Congress MPs chimed in with louder slogans and table banging. As cries of "Manipur, Manipur", "Tanashahi nahin chalegi (No tolerance for dictatorship)" and "Justice for Manipur" rang out, the Speaker angrily reprimanded the opposition leaders.

"I understand the pain of some people. They spread lies but they have suffered defeat," the Prime Minister said after several pauses.

"The people of India have given us a third chance to work. The people have given us a mission. "You have seen what we have achieved in the last 10 years. 250 million people have been lifted out of poverty. Nothing like this has ever happened since independence," PM Modi said.
