Kamala Harris has widened her advantage over Republican Donald Trump
Democratic nominee Kamala Harris has widened her advantage over Republican Donald Trump in the competition for the presidency of the United States on November 5. This trend is based on multiple polls conducted following the televised debate between the two candidates on September 10. Harris, who is widely seen as having performed better than Trump in the debate, currently holds a lead over her Republican opponent with 47% support compared to his 42% in a September 11-19 Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The latest Economist/YouGov poll shows that the 59-year-old is leading the White House race by four percentage points among registered US voters. According to reports, this is the most significant margin any presidential candidate has achieved in a weekly Economist/YouGov poll in almost a year.
The last time a candidate had a similar lead was in September 23-26, 2023, when US President Joe Biden led Trump by 45% to 40%. Prior to the debate, Harris, who took over from Biden as the Democratic nominee, held a two-point lead in the Economist/YouGov poll.
Real Clear Politics previously reported Kamala Harris held a 1.4-point lead over her 78-year-old opponent on September 10, which has now expanded to two points (49.3 percent to 47.3) as of September 19. According to polling aggregator FiveThirtyEight, the Democrat's lead has increased to about three percentage points, up from two points before the debate.
Silver Bulletin also indicated that Harris is now ahead of Trump by more than three points. According to Nielsen data, the debate hosted by ABC News garnered over 67 million television viewers, surpassing the approximately 51 million viewers of the Trump-Biden debate in June.
