After killing Hezbollah Commanders 105 people killed in Israeli Air Strike in Lebanon
Israeli airstrikes resulted in the deaths of 105 individuals in Lebanon, including seven commanders of Hezbollah within a week. The attacks carried out by Israel on Sunday targeted Hezbollah locations, further escalating the violence in the region. It initiated a new military operation by striking Houthi targets in Yemen, amidst concerns of escalating tensions in the Middle East.
According to reports from Lebanon's health ministry, 105 individuals lost their lives and 359 were injured due to Israel's assault on Sunday. This attack occurred just two days after Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Lebanon's Hezbollah organization, was killed by Israel. Hezbollah has been involved in cross-border conflicts with Israel, showing solidarity with Hamas in Gaza.
Additionally, Lebanon's health ministry confirmed fatal air raids near the major southern city of Sidon on Sunday. Multiple fatalities were reported in the eastern region, southern area, and vicinity of Beirut. The French Foreign Ministry confirmed the death of another French citizen in Lebanon. Witnesses reported to international news agencies on Monday that Israel had launched an attack on central Beirut, the first such incident since the escalation of conflict in Gaza last year.
The multi-story residential building was struck by the airstrike. Videos depicted ambulances and a gathering of individuals beneath the structure, indicating that the strike had singled out an apartment within the building. The nation had focused on southern Beirut, where the Lebanese militant organization holds significant power. On Sunday, Israel eliminated Nabil Kaouk, the deputy leader of the group's Central Council. Hezbollah has verified his demise.
He was the seventh high-ranking Hezbollah official to pass away within a span of one week. The group reported the death of another senior commander, Ali Karaki, in the same strike that killed Nasrallah. Lebanese media also reported numerous strikes in the central, eastern, and western Bekaa region. It was alleged that Israel deliberately aimed at structures housing civilians. The health ministry of Lebanon confirmed that a total of 14 medical personnel were fatally wounded within a span of two days in the southern region. Hezbollah has escalated its assaults notably in recent days in retaliation to Israeli aggressions. The assaults resulted in injuries to multiple individuals and inflicted harm on property.
The Israeli military reported that the majority of the salvos were successfully intercepted by Israel's defense systems. Dozens of Israeli aircraft carried out strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen in retaliation to a recent attack. Power plants and sea-port facilities in Hodeida, Yemen were targeted in the attacks. The Houthis initiated a ballistic missile assault on Ben Gurion airport on Saturday during the arrival of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. US President Joe Biden announced his intention to hold discussions with the Israeli leader.
A warning was issued against escalating conflict in the Middle East. White House national security spokesman John Kirby stated that Israel's strikes in Lebanon effectively eliminated Hezbollah's leadership. Nonetheless, he cautioned that the team would promptly undertake the task of reconstructing it. Regarding Nasrallah's passing, he stated that the global population would be more secure in his absence. He highlighted the challenge facing the group in filling the leadership vacuum.
The ongoing conflict in Lebanon has led to a humanitarian crisis. Within a fortnight of the conflict, a total of 1,030 individuals have lost their lives in the nation, comprising 156 women and 87 children. Numerous individuals have been displaced from their residences. According to the local authorities, 250,000 individuals sought shelter while nearly four times that amount took refuge in the homes of relatives.
The conflict in the Middle East commenced on October 7 of the previous year when Hamas initiated an attack on Israel, resulting in the deaths of 1,205 individuals, predominantly civilians. 251 hostages were also taken. The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza reports that Israel's retaliatory strikes have resulted in the deaths of 41,595 individuals, with a majority being civilians.
