Ryan Wesley Routh, a 58-year-old suspect, was arrested by Secret Service agents after shots were fired near the perimeter of Trump's golf course. The FBI has reported that former US President Donald Trump narrowly avoided an alleged assassination attempt in Florida on Sunday. The suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, aged 58, was apprehended by Secret Service agents who discharged their firearms in the vicinity of the perimeter of Trump's golf course. A high-caliber rifle resembling an AK-47, equipped with a scope and a GoPro camera, was found at the location. Secret Service agents discharged their firearms, causing Routh to flee from the bushes in which he was concealed and drive away in a black vehicle. Authorities successfully located the vehicle with the assistance of witnesses who aided police in its identification. "We currently have an individual in custody who is being considered as a possible suspect," stated Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw during a press conference, as reported by news agency AFP.
Who Is Ryan Wesley Routh?
As per the New York Times, Routh hails from Greensboro, North Carolina, and has a background in construction work. Routh lacked formal military training but demonstrated a keen interest in engaging in armed conflict, notably in Ukraine following Russia's invasion in 2022. In a post on X, previously known as Twitter, Routh expressed his readiness to "engage in combat and make the ultimate sacrifice" in Ukraine. He also promoted the idea of civilians influencing global conflicts.
"I AM WILLING TO FLY TO KRAKOW AND GO TO THE BORDER OF UKRAINE TO VOLUNTEER AND FIGHT AND DIE," he expressed.
As reported by the New York Times, Routh stated on the messaging app Signal, "Civilians must change this war and prevent future wars" in his profile bio. "Every individual should contribute daily in small ways to uphold human rights, freedom, and democracy; we must all assist the Chinese community," his WhatsApp bio states. Routh's actions extended beyond mere online statements. During a 2023 interview with The New York Times, he asserted that he had visited Ukraine to aid the war initiative and enlist Afghan troops.
This incident was not Routh's initial encounter with violence. In Greensboro in 2002, he was apprehended following a standoff in which he barricaded himself inside a building with a fully automatic firearm. The allegations were grave, but the resolution of the legal matter is still uncertain.
