This attack stood out as one of the most fatal incidents since 2006. The Israel Defense Forces issued warnings to residents of southern and eastern Lebanon to evacuate in anticipation of an expanded air offensive targeting Hezbollah positions in the region. Lebanon's health ministry reported that the Israeli airstrikes resulted in the deaths of 492 individuals, including 35 children and 58 women, as well as more than 1,000 injuries. 

This one-day toll was particularly devastating for a country still reeling from a recent attack on its communication infrastructure. Lebanese authorities disclosed that over 80,000 suspected Israeli phone calls were made to notify citizens about the need to evacuate. The most recent development signifies a further escalation of Israel's 11-month campaign against militant groups, potentially leading to an all-out war situation following a week of heightened tensions in Lebanon.

Netanyahu's Address to Lebanese Citizens

In a recorded statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a warning to the people of Lebanon on Monday, conveying that Hezbollah is using them as human shields. He urged them to take Israeli evacuation calls seriously, emphasizing, "Please, get out of harm's way now." Netanyahu clarified that Israel is not in conflict with Lebanon or its citizens, but with the Iran-backed militant group. "Following the completion of our operation, you may return to your residences in safety," stated Netanyahu in a video announcement following the Israeli army's report of targeting 800 Hezbollah locations in Lebanon.

Ready to commence a ground invasion if required, Israel's military spokesperson, Rear Adm, affirmed. Daniel Hagari stated that the military will take all necessary measures to remove Hezbollah from the border between Lebanon and Israel. He declared that the extensive airstrikes on Monday caused significant damage to Hezbollah. Nevertheless, he declined to provide a specific timeframe for the operation and asserted that Israel was ready to initiate a land incursion into Lebanon if necessary. He asserted that Hezbollah had fired approximately 9,000 rockets and drones into Israel since October of the previous year, with 250 being fired on Monday alone. Israel assesses that Hezbollah possesses approximately 150,000 rockets and missiles, including precision-guided missiles and long-range projectiles with the capability to target any location within Israel.
