PM Modi emplanes for US: To participate in Quad Summit hosted by President Biden; address UN ’Summit of Future’

 



The Prime Minister is set to attend the fourth Quad Leaders' Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, hosted by US President Joe Biden on September 21.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a three-day trip to the United States on Saturday morning. Modi is scheduled to participate in the Quad Leaders' Summit and deliver an address at the 'Summit of the Future' at the United Nations General Assembly, in addition to engaging with the Indian diaspora during his upcoming visit. 

His itinerary includes joining the sixth Quad Leaders' Summit hosted by US President Joe Biden in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware on September 21. "Prime Minister @narendramodi departs for the United States to attend the 6th Quad Leaders' Summit and deliver a speech at the UN 'Summit of the Future', as stated by Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on X. 

The Quad comprises of India, Australia, Japan, and the United States, united in their dedication to promoting global welfare and advocating for a prosperous and resilient Indo-Pacific region that is open, free, and inclusive." India is set to host the Quad Leaders' Summit in 2025. Progress of the Quad will be reviewed at this summit. The leaders will assess the accomplishments of the past year and outline priorities for the upcoming year to support the development objectives of Indo-Pacific countries, as per the Ministry of External Affairs.

 The inaugural Quad Leaders Summit took place virtually in 2021. The 2nd Quad Leaders’ Summit (first in-person) took place in Washington, DC, on September 24, 2021. The third Quad Leaders' Summit took place through a virtual platform on March 3, 2022. 

The fourth Quad Leaders' Summit, the second in-person meeting, was held in Japan on May 24, 2022. The fifth Quad Leaders' Summit, the third in-person meeting, took place in Hiroshima, Japan on May 20, 2023. During his trip to the United States, Modi is scheduled to speak at the 'Summit of the Future' during the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 23. 

The summit's theme is "Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow." UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has described the Summit as a "once in a generation UN Summit." The "Summit of the Future" marks a significant milestone for the United Nations as it reaches its 80th year in 2025. Numerous world leaders are anticipated to attend the event. Modi will engage in bilateral meetings with various international leaders to address mutual concerns during the summit.
