Sources said recently promoted Major Brijesh Thapa of 10 RR was among the four Indian Army soldiers killed in the gunfight. The army did not give details of the casualties and there was no official confirmation of the fatalities.
Four army personnel, including the policeman, and one policeman were injured in the gunfight with the terrorists that initially lasted for more than 20 minutes, officials said.
The injured were rushed to hospital where their condition was reported as "serious". They later succumbed to their injuries, officials said.
