Mass panic in Hathras: Home Minister Amit Shah offers condolences, prays for speedy recovery of injured

More than 130 people died in the unfortunate incident, which occurred due to overcrowding at the religious congregation of Narayan Sarkar Hari aka Bhola Baba.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday expressed grief over the unfortunate attack in Hathras in which over 85 people lost their lives and dozens more were injured.

Speaking to X, the Home Minister said: "I am deeply saddened by the tragic accident in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. My condolences go to the families of those who lost their lives in this accident. May God give them the strength to bear this pain. The local administration is busy with relief operations. We pray for a speedy recovery of the injured."

PM Modi and Yogi announce solatium

Earlier, PM Modi had also expressed his condolences to the bereaved families. He was discussing a motion of thanks in court when the tragic incident took place. He expressed grief during his speech and later called Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to take stock of the situation. He announced a voluntary donation of Rs 20 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.


Meanwhile, CM Yogi had deputed two state ministers -- Lakshmi Narayan Choudhary and Sandeep Singh -- to the spot. Apart from them, he also directed the state DG to come to Hathras. He also set up an investigation team under the ADG to probe the violence.


He also directed the authorities to work vigorously on rescue and relief operations. CM Yogi further announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 5 lakh to the injured.


Hathras District Administration Issues, Helpline Numbers

It is important to know that over 60 people have died in the stampede at Pulrai village near Mandi in Sikandralau in Hathras district. Ashish Kumar, SHO of Sikandralau police station, said the stampede occurred due to overcrowding. Meanwhile, the injured have been shifted to Sikandralau Trauma Centre and Aligarh Medical College.


In view of the tragic stampede that has taken place in Hathras district, the district administration has released helpline numbers to assist the public and keep them updated on the situation. The helplines are 0572-2227041 and 0572-2227042.
