Puja Khedkar, an IAS trainee officer, is at the centre of a storm over the genuineness of her disability and her claim of OBC status that got her hired in the civil service, but if hired on a one-man basis, she could be fired and would also be charged with forgery. The committee set up by the central government to probe the case has found that she made false statements and concealed facts.
According to government sources, the committee headed by Additional Secretary of State for Government, Manoj Dwivedi, will investigate within the next two weeks how she obtained documents verifying her disability and OBC status and whether the issuing authorities verified them properly.
Khedkar is said to have repeatedly failed to appear for mandatory medical examinations at AIIMS Delhi to confirm her disability. The committee will send its report to DOPT, which will submit it to the Maharashtra government after it makes recommendations. As she was appointed to the Maharashtra cadre, the Maharashtra government will take action.
