Jharkhand Assembly Election: For this phase In Jharkhand, the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has fielded 23 candidates, its allies Congress 17 and Lalu Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal five.


Forty-three of Jharkhand's 81 assembly seats are voting in the first phase of election. A few by-elections are also planned, with the most notable being Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's challenge in Wayanad, Kerala.

- By-elections are set for 31 assembly seats in 10 states and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. Four assembly seats are specifically designated for Scheduled Castes, while six are set aside for Scheduled Tribes. Elections are scheduled to take place on seven seats in Rajasthan, six in West Bengal, five in Assam, four in Bihar, three in Kerala, two in Madhya Pradesh, and one each in Meghalaya, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and Karnataka. Additionally, two seats in Sikkim saw candidates from Sikkim Krantikari Morcha being declared as unopposed winners on October 30. In Jharkhand, the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has nominated 23 candidates for this phase, with its allies Congress fielding 17 candidates and Lalu Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal putting forward five candidates. 

The Opposition BJP has put forward 36 candidates, Janata Dal United (JDU) has two candidates, and Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party has seven candidates. Key candidates in today's election include former Chief Minister Champai Soren and his son Babulal Soren, former Chief Minister Arjun Munda's wife Meera Munda, Madhu Koda's wife Geeta Koda, and Raghuvar Das's daughter-in-law Purnima Sahu. The JMM-led coalition is aiming for a second term, supported by its welfare schemes like Maiyan Samman Yojana. The NDA vows to end infiltration and corruption by the Grand Alliance government.

 They highlight the arrest of Chief Minister Hemant Soren in a corruption case. The BJP's main commitments include expelling infiltrators, introducing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), providing ₹2,100 monthly to each woman, and creating 5 lakh jobs for the youth. The NDA conducted its usual high-profile campaign featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP chief JP Nadda, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma conducted several rallies. 

In 2019, the JMM secured 30 seats while the BJP obtained 25, a decrease from 37 in 2014. The JMM-Congress-RJD coalition secured a decisive majority with 47 seats. The next round of voting is scheduled for November 20, with results to be announced on November 23.
