Delhi is currently experiencing its worst air quality of the season, leading to the closure of schools and offices.

To address the rising pollution levels, Delhi has implemented a new action plan which includes banning non-essential trucks, shutting down schools, and transitioning to remote work. The city has activated stage-4 emergency anti-pollution measures due to the air quality reaching alarming levels, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 481 on Monday morning.

The emergency measures were put into effect after the AQI hit 457, with restrictions such as a ban on diesel trucks, school closures, and remote working, as advised by the Centre for Air Quality Management (CAQM).

The AQI scale categorizes readings from 0 to 50 as "good", 51 to 100 as "satisfactory", 101 to 200 as "moderate", 201 to 300 as "poor", 301 to 400 as "very poor", 401 to 450 as "severe", and anything above 450 as "severe plus".

Key restrictions under the GRAP-4 plan to address Delhi's pollution crisis include a ban on non-essential trucks entering the city and restrictions on Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) from outside Delhi, unless they are electric, CNG, or BS-VI diesel vehicles involved in essential services. These measures are part of an 8-point action plan aimed at reducing pollution levels and safeguarding public health in the National Capital Region (NCR).
