3 deceased in conflicts concerning examination of mosque in UP's Sambhal

Three individuals have passed away in the intense conflicts regarding the examination of a mosque in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district, as stated by Moradabad divisional commissioner Ananya Kumar on Sunday.

"Three individuals, particularly Naeem, Bilal, and Niman, lost their lives during the altercation." He stated that 20 to 22 police officers, including officials such as the CO of Sambhal, the PRO to the SP of Sambhal, and one SDM, suffered injuries. Other injured individuals received injuries from splinters. Meanwhile, 15 individuals have been apprehended," stated the divisional commissioner. Tension increased in Sambhal during the second survey of the Mughal-era Jama Masjid when residents threw stones at the police team.

The police deployed tear gas and “minor force” to scatter the crowd. Sambhal has been tense over the recent days since the mosque was inspected last Tuesday by a local court's directive, following a petition alleging the presence of a Harihar temple at the location. As per the local administration, a second survey conducted by an "Advocate Commissioner" for a court-ordered examination of the disputed site started at 7 am. A crowd started gathering at the location.

"Some troublemakers emerged from the group near the site and threw stones at the police team. "The situation was brought under control by the police using minimal force and tear gas," stated Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Vishnoi. "Individuals involved in stone pelting and those who encouraged such behavior will be identified and face consequences," added Vishnoi.

Uttar Pradesh police chief Prashant Kumar informed PTI that the situation in Sambhal is now under control. "We are keeping an eye on everything." All law enforcement and government officials are addressing the situation at the scene. They are monitoring those regions. Criminals will be detected promptly and dealt with harshly, as per the director general of police (DGP).
