Withdraw AFSPA: Public outcry in Manipur, targeted violence at CM's residence

The Manipur cabinet has proposed removing the AFSPA declaration for six areas, calling on the Centre to reconsider its decision made on November 15, 2024.

Manipur government has formally asked the Centre to reassess and repeal the reimplementation of AFSPA in six police station areas within the state.

On November 14, the Ministry of Home Affairs reintroduced AFSPA in various areas, including Sekmai PS, Lamsang PS, Lamlai, Moirang, Leimakhong, and Jiribam, due to recent outbreaks of violence.

The state cabinet met on November 15 and recommended withdrawing the disturbed status of these areas under Section 3 of AFSPA, 1958, urging the Centre to reverse its decision for the well-being of the public.

After the bodies of six missing individuals were found in a Manipur river, protestors targeted the homes of three state ministers and six MLAs on Saturday.
