Lalu Yadav Claims That Nitish Kumar is Welcome to Join Again. Reaction from Bihar's Chief Minister

Lalu Yadav's friendly gesture towards Nitish Kumar comes after a series of unstable partnerships. Nitish Kumar, who heads the Janata Dal (United), has collaborated with the RJD on two occasions over the past ten years.

On Thursday, the Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, gave a vague answer to Lalu Prasad Yadav’s invitation for him to return to the opposition INDIA coalition. When reporters inquired about Yadav's comments, Kumar smiled, clasped his hands together, and simply replied, "Kya bol rahe hain (What are you saying?)" without providing any further details.

This dialogue follows Yadav's remarks in an interview, where he stated, "We are open to Nitish Kumar. He should also unlock his doors. This would allow for better communication between both parties." Yadav's statement has sparked speculation in Bihar regarding the potential renewal of their partnership, with the two seasoned politicians often referred to as "bada bhai, chhota bhai" (big brother, little brother) in the state's political scene. Yadav’s invitation follows a pattern of rocky collaborations. Kumar, who leads the Janata Dal (United), has previously teamed up with the RJD twice in the last ten years, most recently during the Mahagathbandhan before switching back to align with the BJP-led NDA in 2024.

Tejashwi Yadav, Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister and Lalu Prasad Yadav's son and designated successor in the RJD, minimized his father's comments, suggesting they were merely intended to "please the media's curiosity." Speaking to reporters during the inauguration of new Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Tejashwi stated, “What else could he (Lalu Yadav) say? He was just responding to your questions."

However, Tejashwi Yadav also claimed that the upcoming year will see the end of Nitish Kumar's government backed by the NDA. He went on to accuse Kumar of being "controlled" by a small circle of close advisers and no longer being capable of governing Bihar on his own.
