Jasprit Bumrah has referred to Rohit's decision to "take a rest" as a positive aspect for the Indian team. Bumrah stepped in to handle the toss during the final Test in Sydney since Rohit struggled with his batting, averaging in the single digits throughout the series.


At the Sydney Cricket Ground, India made the surprising choice to change their captain even while the series was still in contention. With Rohit out of the lineup, Shubman Gill, who missed the game in Melbourne, was brought back into the playing team. It was widely expected that Rohit would sit out, particularly after head coach Gautam Gambhir chose not to clarify the captain's status before the match.


During the toss, Ravi Shastri did not inquire about the reason for the captaincy change, but Bumrah shared that the mood in the dressing room was "positive."


"Yes, the discussions were good," he remarked. "We're focusing on maintaining a positive attitude and considering the lessons learned as we proceed," added Bumrah, who previously captained the team to victory in Perth when Rohit was absent for the birth of his second child.


"Clearly, our captain [Rohit Sharma] has exhibited leadership. He has decided to rest for this match."


"This reflects the strong unity within our team. There’s no selfishness involved. We are prioritizing what’s best for the team," he emphasized.


India enters the match behind 2-1 but has the opportunity to level the series and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
