Khalistani supporters attacked Hindu Sabha Temple in Canada. PM Trudeau condemns 'unacceptable violence'.

The clashes occurred during a protest. Videos on social media depicted individuals waving Khalistan flags and fighting with others holding Indian flags.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau criticized the attack on Hindu worshipers at Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton as "unacceptable". He emphasized the value of religious freedom in Canada. The event, reportedly carried out by supporters of Khalistani separatism, has caused widespread anger and prompted demands for intervention.

"The violent incidents at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton today are not acceptable," Trudeau stated on the social media platform X. "Each Canadian has the privilege to freely and safely practice their religion. The police were appreciated for their quick response and dedication to thoroughly investigating the incident.

Brampton’s Peel Regional Police, who dispatched a considerable number of officers to ensure order outside the Hindu Sabha Mandir, have not made any arrests as of Monday and have not verified the identities of those accountable for the outbreak of violence." The conflicts allegedly occurred amidst a demonstration, with videos shared on social media depicting people brandishing yellow Khalistan flags and engaging in confrontations with those displaying Indian flags. Some video recordings showed fights and people carrying sticks near the temple.

Canadian MP Chandra Arya, a member of Trudeau’s Liberal Party, criticized the event, linking the violence to Khalistani radicals.

"A red line has been crossed by Canadian Khalistani extremists today," Arya said on X, describing it as a bold show of pro-Khalistani radicalism in Canada. Arya raised worries that supporters of Khalistani cause might have influenced Canada's political and law enforcement structures, citing a perceived increasing danger.

The situation has exacerbated already strained relations between India and Canada, which deteriorated further when Trudeau blamed the Indian government for playing a role in the 2023 killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Vancouver. Both nations removed top diplomats, adding more complexity to their diplomatic relationships.
