"Will Behead Their Leaders": Israel Confirms It Killed Hamas Chief In Iran

Israel's Defense Minister, Israel Katz, acknowledged publicly for the first time on Monday Israel's elimination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Iran during July, exacerbating already high tensions between Tehran and its longstanding adversary Israel amidst turmoil from Israel's ongoing conflict in Gaza and the situation in Lebanon.

"Currently, while the Houthi terrorist group is launching missiles towards Israel, I wish to deliver a definitive message at the outset of my statement: We have triumphed over Hamas, we have triumphed over Hezbollah, we have compromised Iran's defense capabilities and impaired their production systems, we have toppled the Assad regime in Syria, we have inflicted significant damage on the evil axis, and we will likewise deliver a substantial blow to the Houthi terrorist group in Yemen, which is the final adversary left standing," Katz stated.

Israel will "target their strategic infrastructure, and we will eliminate their leaders – just as we did with Haniyeh, Sinwar, and Nasrallah in Tehran, Gaza, and Lebanon – we shall execute this in Hodeidah and Sana'a," Katz remarked during an evening event honoring defense ministry personnel.

The Iran-backed faction in Yemen has been launching attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea for over a year in an attempt to implement a maritime blockade against Israel, justifying their actions as a show of support for Palestinians amid Israel's prolonged conflict in Gaza.

In late July, the political figure representing the Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas was assassinated in Tehran, an act attributed to Israel by Iranian officials. At that time, there was no immediate acknowledgment from Israel regarding its responsibility for Haniyeh's death.

Haniyeh, who typically resided in Qatar, had represented Hamas's international diplomatic efforts as the war ignited by the Hamas-led assault on Israel on October 7 continued to escalate in Gaza. He was participating in internationally facilitated indirect discussions aimed at achieving a ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave.

Months later, Israeli forces in Gaza eliminated Yahya Sinwar, Haniyeh's successor and the architect behind the October 7, 2023, assault that instigated the recent violence in the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
