Israeli aircraft have executed extensive airstrikes targeting Houthi positions in Yemen, resulting in the deaths of at least nine individuals in the port city of Hodeidah.

As reported by Israeli news outlets, several dozen fighter jets, along with refueling and reconnaissance planes, participated in the operations, which were initiated after indications that Israel intended to launch a forceful retaliation against Yemen subsequent to a recent rise in Houthi assaults on Israel, including two occurrences within the past week.

The airstrikes were conducted following a missile launch from Yemen directed towards Israel during the night. The Israeli armed forces stated that they are probing whether a partial failure in intercepting the missile by their aerial defense systems resulted in debris striking a school located in Ramat Gan, close to Tel Aviv.

These airstrikes, marking the third occasion within the current regional conflict where Israel has targeted Yemen, occurred amid alerts that Israel aimed to respond after over a year of sporadic drone and missile assaults from the Iran-aligned Houthis.

Israel's military declared that it “executed accurate strikes on Houthi military installations in Yemen, encompassing ports and energy infrastructure in Sana’a, which have been utilized by the Houthis in a manner that effectively bolstered their military operations.”

In statements released from the command center of the Israeli air force, Israel’s defense minister Israel Katz warned: “I caution the leaders of the Houthi terrorist organization: Israel’s long reach will find you as well.”

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also published a statement accusing the Houthis of “performing strikes against Israel in violation of international law” and emphasized that “the Houthi regime poses a danger to the peace and security of the region.”

In the aftermath of the Israeli airstrikes, a Houthi representative remarked that the faction would “counter escalation with escalation.”

Muhammad Al-Bukhaiti, a member of the Houthi political bureau, asserted: “The American-Israeli bombings of non-military sites in Yemen reveal the contradictions of the West.

“Our military actions supporting Gaza will persist, and we shall react to escalation with escalation until the atrocities of mass extermination in Gaza cease and the entry of food, medical supplies, and fuel into the strip is permitted.”
