"Those Who Speak Truth...": Yogi Adityanath Comments on High Court Judge's Statements
On Friday, the Opposition filed a notice in the Rajya Sabha to initiate impeachment proceedings against Allahabad High Court Judge Shekhar Kumar Yadav due to his purportedly controversial comments made on December 8. Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath criticized the Opposition on Saturday for their move to bring impeachment notices against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Allahabad High Court's Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, stating that "anyone who speaks the truth" faces threats as a result.
While addressing the World Hindu Economic Forum 2024, he further accused the Congress party of exhibiting hypocritical behavior.
"Those who speak the truth will be pressured by these individuals through impeachment (motions), yet they continue to claim to uphold the Constitution. Witness their hypocritical stance. An Allahabad High Court judge mentioned the need for a Uniform Civil Code, and globally, the sentiments of the majority community are honored," Adityanath remarked.
He posed a question: what offense has a person committed if they express such views?
"Isn’t it necessary to have a Uniform Civil Code in our nation? All over the world, systems operate based on the majority community’s viewpoint, and India asserts that discrimination between the majority and minority communities must cease. They (the Congress) will exert pressure, as it has long been their tendency to suffocate the Constitution and manipulate the country’s governance," Adityanath claimed.
Regarding the impeachment notice against Dhankhar for his supposed biased behavior as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, the BJP figure stated that the Vice President is fulfilling his responsibilities as the presiding officer of the Upper House.
"The Opposition is anxious about how a farmer's child has attained this position. If someone, in the capacity of a judge and as a citizen of the nation, articulates the truth on a social and cultural platform, they are threatened with impeachment," Adityanath added.
Members from various opposition parties on Friday submitted a notice in the Rajya Sabha for the impeachment of Allahabad High Court Judge Shekhar Kumar Yadav over his allegedly contentious remarks at a Vishwa Hindu Parishad event held on December 8.
The Supreme Court has requested additional information related to the controversy from the Allahabad High Court.
In the meantime, Adityanath emphasized that society and the nation must reveal those who wish to stifle the truth. He asserted that individuals who disregard India’s heritage should be exposed, alleging that the Opposition claims that Lord Ram never existed.
Adityanath asserted that the Sanatan religion has never claimed superiority or demanded that it be recognized as supreme. He emphasized that it has neither coerced anyone with violence nor laid claim to anyone’s land.
"You have PM Modi bestowing honor on the workers who constructed the Ram Temple in Ayodhya for their efforts, while there have also been rulers who severed the hands of the laborers who built the Taj Mahal," he remarked.
