Russia strikes Ukraine Energy network in Christmas offensive
Russia executed an extensive missile strike targeting Ukraine’s energy framework, leading the nation’s grid operator to curtail electricity supplies on Christmas Day.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reported via Telegram on Wednesday that the strike from Moscow encompassed 70 missiles, with a portion being ballistic, alongside over 100 assault drones. Separately, Russia disclosed it had intercepted 59 Ukrainian drones overnight across multiple regions.
Ukraine’s power grid operator, Ukrenergo, imposed electricity restrictions as a precautionary action, based on another post on Telegram. Energy Minister German Galushchenko indicated that this measure was essential to “reduce the adverse impacts on the energy system.”
In the eastern region of Kharkiv, approximately 500,000 residents have been left without heating, as stated by Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba, according to RBC Ukraine.
