Secretary-General honors Indian army officer who commanded UN peacekeeping contingent

Brigadier Jha held the position of Deputy Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force starting from April 2023.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has honored Brigadier Amitabh Jha from India, who was stationed with UNDOF in the Golan Heights, stating that he will be remembered for his “leadership and steadfast dedication to United Nations peacekeeping”.

Brigadier Jha took on the role of Deputy Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) from April 2023 and had recently acted as the Force Commander of UNDOF amidst challenging conditions, after the fall of the Assad regime in Syria.

“He will be remembered for his leadership and steadfast dedication to United Nations peacekeeping, including during his time in the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) as a Military Observer from 2005 to 2006,” a statement from Guterres’ spokesperson mentioned late on Tuesday.
