Authorities reported that at least four lives were lost, whereas state RTCG television along with other Montenegrin news outlets mentioned that seven individuals had been killed, indicating that the incident followed a dispute in a bar.
On Wednesday, an armed individual took the lives of no fewer than four individuals and injured four more in the city of Cetinje, located in western Montenegro, according to police and regional media sources. The assailant is currently at large.
Law enforcement deployed special units to track down the perpetrator in Cetinje, situated around 30 kilometers (18 miles) to the northwest of the capital, Podgorica. A report indicated that the man began shooting inside a bar before fleeing the location while still armed. Police have only disclosed his initials, AM, and confirmed he is 45 years old.
Authorities reported that a minimum of four lives were lost, while state RTCG television along with other Montenegrin media indicated that seven fatalities occurred and noted that the gunfire was preceded by a bar altercation. Montenegro’s Interior Minister Danilo Saranovic stated, “a number of people were killed,” referencing the bar owner and his family members, in addition to the family members of the shooter, though a precise death count was not provided.
President Jakov Milatovic expressed that he was “shocked and stunned” by this calamity. “Rather than experiencing holiday joy... we are now engulfed in sorrow over the loss of innocent lives,” Milatovic conveyed on the social media platform X.
Prime Minister Milojko Spajic visited the medical facility where the injured individuals were receiving care and declared three days of mourning, without detailing the number of fatalities.
“This is an awful tragedy that has impacted us all,” remarked Spajic. “All police teams are currently active.”
