Delhi Court issues notice to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi in National Herald case

Delhi Court issues notice to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi in National Herald case

The next hearing is scheduled for May 8. On Friday, a court in Delhi served a notice to Congress figures Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and several others concerning the chargesheet submitted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) related to the money laundering case involving the National Herald.

Special Judge Vishal Gogne emphasized that Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and other individuals named in the charges have the "right to be heard" when the chargesheet is made cognizable. He noted that this right is essential for ensuring a just trial, which necessitated the notice's issuance, while also setting the next court date for May 8.

Previously, on April 9, the ED filed a chargesheet against former Congress leaders Sonia and Rahul Gandhi as part of its investigation into ₹988 crore linked to money laundering in the National Herald case.

The chargesheet was filed under sections 3 (money laundering) and 4 (penalties for money laundering) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), identifying Sonia and Rahul Gandhi as accused one and two, respectively.

In addition to the Gandhis, the ED has included Sam Pitroda, head of overseas Congress, and former journalist Suman Dubey in the chargesheet, alongside Young Indian Private Limited (YI), a company where Sonia and Rahul Gandhi collectively hold a 76% share.
