Bibek Debroy, Chairman Of PM's Economic Advisory Council, Dies At 69
A Padma Shri awardee, Mr. Debroy previously held the position of chancellor at the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) in Pune.
Economist and chairman of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's economic advisory council, Bibek Debroy, passed away today at the age of 69. An individual who received the Padma Shri award, Mr. Debroy previously held the position of chancellor at the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) in Pune.
"Bibek Debroy passed away at 7 am today as a result of intestinal obstruction," stated AIIMS Delhi. PM Modi expressed his condolences and referred to Mr. Debroy as a "towering scholar." Dr. Bibek Debroy was a highly knowledgeable scholar, proficient in various fields such as economics, history, culture, politics, spirituality, and others. By his writings, he made a lasting impact on India's intellectual scene. "PM Modi shared on social media that besides his work in public policy, he took pleasure in making our ancient texts easier for young people to understand." Mr Debroy received his education from Ramakrishna Mission School in Narendrapur, Presidency College in Kolkata, Delhi School of Economics, and Trinity College in Cambridge. He has worked at Presidency College in Kolkata, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics in Pune, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in Delhi, and as the Director of a Ministry of Finance/UNDP project on legal reforms.
