Donald Trump supports shooting reporters, stating that "To get me, somebody would have to shoot through fake news." During an outdoor rally at the Lancaster, Pennsylvania airport, he also mentioned that he "shouldn't have left" the White House after losing to Joe Biden. He criticized an "extremely unskilled" national leadership and the American media. At one moment, he redirected the rally to discuss violence against members of the press.

The ex-president mentioned the ballistic glass installed in front of him during events following an assassination attempt by Thomas Matthew Crooks in July at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. He also discussed areas where he noticed vulnerabilities in that security.

"I have this sheet of glass here," he stated. However, what we have here is simply misinformation. And to acquire me, someone would need to penetrate the misinformation. And I don't mind that very much."

Trump's campaign later attempted to explain what he meant, with campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung stating in a statement, as reported by NBC Philadelphia, "President Trump was skillfully referring to the two assassination attempts on his own life, one of which was just 1/4 inch away from ending his life. This is something that the media frequently discusses and makes light of. The President's recent comments on the placement of protective glass do not relate to any harm to the media or other issues. This is the second time in recent days that Trump has mentioned guns being aimed at people he seems to dislike. Before, he proposed that former Representative Liz Cheney might not support foreign wars if she faced the threat of "nine barrels shooting at her."
