Discussing Moscow's strained relations with Washington, Putin mentioned, "I have previously stated that we are willing to engage with any leader whom the American people have confidence in." This is exactly what we will do. "I don't feel ashamed to refer to him (Trump) myself. I simply do not do it, as the leaders of Western countries used to call me almost every week at some point, until they suddenly stopped," he said.
'Like a real man'
Putin mentioned that Trump's comments during the election campaign regarding Ukraine and improving relations with Russia were worth noting. "What was mentioned about the desire to improve relations with Russia and resolve the Ukrainian crisis, in my view, this is worthy of attention," stated Putin.
The Russian president's comments were made in response to the US President-elect indicating his readiness for a conversation. President-elect Trump mentioned to NBC News that "I think we'll speak" when asked about his interactions with world leaders following his election win.
Trump had previously stated during his campaign that he could achieve peace in Ukraine within 24 hours if elected, but has not provided much information on his plans to end the significant conflict, which is the largest land war in Europe since World War Two. The 72-year-old leader of the Kremlin provided a single warning: "I am unsure of what will occur next." "I have no idea," as reported by Sky News.
