Trump is currently leading in three swing states while Harris is ahead in two swing states. These seven battleground states are crucial to winning the US election. After two hours of counting, the Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democrat opponent Kamala Harris are both in the lead in select swing states. Despite Harris leading in Pennsylvania and Michigan, Trump is currently ahead in Wisconsin, Georgia, and North Carolina. Results have not been reported for the swing states of Nevada and Arizona. These states, also referred to as battleground states, are crucial for determining the outcome of the US election. These states possess a similar level of backing for both the Democrats and Republicans, and the outcome of the election hinges on these states. This year, the pivotal states are Pennsylvania, with 19 electoral college votes, Michigan (10), Georgia (16), Wisconsin (10), North Carolina (16), Nevada (6) and Arizona (11).
Both the previous President and the current vice president are aiming for the 270 electoral college votes needed to win the Oval Office in the White House. Based on the latest data, Trump has 177 votes ahead, with Harris following at 99.
Exit polls show that democracy, economy, and abortion were the main concerns for voters during the election. A recent CBS News survey showed that nearly 60% of respondents identified the state of democracy as their top concern, while 5% of voters selected abortion as an important issue. The economy was a top concern for 10% of people.
