ISRAEL - PALESTINE - RAFFAH: Israel says it is ready to attack Rafah

Israeli forces are preparing to evacuate Palestinian civilians from Rafah and attack Hamas strongholds in the southern Gaza city, a senior Israeli defense official said on Wednesday. crisis.

A spokesman for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government said Israel was "moving forward" with its foundational work but did not set a date.

The Israeli Ministry of Defense purchased 40,000 tents, each capable of sheltering 10 to 12 people, for Palestinian families displaced from Rafah before the attack, defense officials said.

In the video circulating on the internet, rows of white square tents rising from the ground in Khan Younis city, approximately 5 kilometers away from Rafah, can be seen. Reuters could not verify the video, but satellite company Maxar Technologies reviewed footage showing tent huts on Khan Younis' property had been there for weeks.

An Israeli government source said Netanyahu's military plans to hold a meeting within the next two weeks to allow the evacuation of civilians, which is expected to last a month.

The military can act immediately but is still waiting for Netanyahu's approval, the defense minister told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

Rafah, on the Egyptian border, is home to more than a million Palestinians who have fled six months of Israeli offensives from other parts of Gaza and say the prospect of returning is dangerous.

"I had to decide whether or not to leave Refah because my mother and I were worried that an attack could happen quickly and we wouldn't have time to escape," said Aya, 30, who lived in Refah for a while. The family is at school. Some families had just moved to a refugee camp in Almavasi on the coast, but their tents caught fire when a tank shell landed nearby, she said. "Where are we going?"

Strike hard

Israel launched a war to eliminate Hamas after the Islamist group attacked the Israeli town on October 7. Strengthened by the retreating soldiers, Israel must defeat them to achieve its goal of victory.

Brigadier General Itzik Cohen, commander of the Israeli 162nd Division, said, "Hamas is seriously wounded in the north, it is seriously wounded in the middle of the Gaza Strip. It will soon be heavily hit in Rafah as well." Gaza told Kan Public TV.But Israel's closest ally, Washington, urged him to cancel the plan to kill him and said Israel could kill Hamas soldiers there by other means.
