The United States and its allies condemn Iran for attacking Israel and trying to avoid war


The United States and European governments have called for sanctions on Iran over Israel's willingness to retaliate for an Iranian attack and fear of violence.

The United States and European allies met Thursday to impose new sanctions on Iran's military leaders and arms manufacturers and punish Iran for its missile and drone attacks on the Israeli people over the weekend, while asking the Israeli public not to do so. White House officials said the sanctions target officials and organizations linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Iranian Ministry of Defense and the Iranian government's missile and drone programs. They say the sanctions also aim to restrict exports from Iran's steel industry, which provides Tehran with billions of dollars in revenue.

President Biden said in his statement, "I have directed my team, including the Treasury Department, to continue sanctions that further impact Iran's military economy." "Those who support or encourage Iran's attacks need to know this clearly: The United States is committed to Israel's security."

Britain stated that it had given instructions to seven and six organizations linked to Iran's army in the region and described their attacks on Israel as "high and sufficient fear".
