VVPAT Hearing in Supreme Court

The Election Commission of India told the Supreme Court that there was no conflict between e-voting tickets and Voting Research Trail (VVPAT). The ECI said it has tested EVM votes with VVPAT shifts of over Rs 4 crore and has not found any discrepancy so far. This was stated by the ECI in its written reply to a question of the Supreme Court (April 16) during the hearing of a petition seeking the initial execution of electronic voting (EVM) data as per the Voter Verification Permit (VVPAT) request.

The bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta decided the matter today. The questions from the court and the European Commission's responses are listed below. Question 1. Can all 3 units and VVPAT BU, CU be used together to conduct elections together? This is true. Polling Unit (BU), CU (Control Unit) and VVPAT together form the EVM and all the three units are kept in the vault after the election and sealed to the candidate/representative body Section

2 Is there any software installed in VVPAT when characters are loaded? VVPAT is just a printer. No software is required when SLU loads signal from VVPAT. The software is not installed on VVPAT or cannot be downloaded from SLU. No programs or applications can be loaded into VVPAT during icon loading because VVPAT can only accept image files in file format (.bmp) containing serial numbers, match points, and their icons.
