The Syrian administration crumbled early Sunday, succumbing to a rapid rebel assault that captured the capital, Damascus. 

Shortly after the Syrian insurgents toppled the regime of Bashar al-Assad, a claimed video emerged showing armed individuals guiding Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali from his office to the Four Seasons hotel. The location of Assad remains unclear; however, various reports indicate he may have taken flight to escape the nation. 

The Syrian administration crumbled early Sunday, succumbing to a rapid rebel assault that captured the capital, Damascus. With this unforeseen change in Assad's fortunes, the civil conflict in Syria—which devastated the national economy and compelled millions to seek asylum in the West and neighboring nations—will probably reach its conclusion. 

US to continue presence in Syria 

The United States announced its intent to sustain its presence in eastern Syria and implement steps to hinder the revival of the Islamic State, as stated by Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East, Daniel Shapiro, on Sunday. 


"We recognize that the tumultuous and shifting conditions on the ground in Syria could allow ISIS the opportunity to activate, strategize external operations, and we are resolute in collaborating with our partners to persist in diminishing their capabilities," he remarked at the Manama Dialogue security conference in Bahrain’s capital.
