“With only 50 days remaining in his presidency, Joe Biden has just ignited a political timebomb before his departure for Africa today, leaving his party to manage the fallout,” Collins remarked. She emphasized that the president went ahead with the pardon despite his prior statements indicating he would not do so.
In a declaration made on Sunday, Biden asserted that Hunter’s prosecution was driven by political motives. “Today, I authorized a pardon for my son Hunter. From my first day in office, I pledged that I wouldn’t intervene in the Justice Department’s determinations, and I upheld that promise even while witnessing my son being prosecuted in a selective and unjust manner,” the president stated.
The pardon reverberated throughout the nation, leading Republicans to label Biden a “liar.” President-elect Donald Trump expressed his outrage at Biden’s action, referring to it as a “miscarriage of justice.” Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene shared a harsh statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, denouncing the younger Biden as a “criminal.”
