Defence ministry signs ₹13,500 crore agreement with HAL for 12 Su-30 fighters

The Su-30 planes will feature an indigenous composition of 62.6%, improved by the localization of numerous components produced by the domestic defence sector

On Thursday, the defence ministry formalized a ₹13,500-crore agreement with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) located in Bengaluru for the acquisition of 12 Sukhoi-30 fighter jets along with related equipment intended for the Indian Air Force, as part of the nation’s drive for self-reliance, as stated by the ministry.

The IAF currently operates a total of 260 Su-30s, and the procurement of the 12 additional aircraft aims to replace those lost due to accidents.

“The Su-30 planes will feature an indigenous composition of 62.6%, improved by the localization of numerous components produced by the domestic defence sector,” the defence ministry noted.

The 12 jets will be assembled at HAL’s division in Nashik.

“The delivery of these aircraft will enhance the operational capability of the IAF and bolster the nation’s defence readiness,” the ministry remarked in a statement.
