Rumblings and air-strike sirens rang across Israel early Sunday after Iran launched hundreds of drones, missiles and rockets in an unprecedented retaliation aimed at pushing the Middle East into a regional war. A military spokesman said there were more than 300 reports but 99 percent of them were intercepted.
Iran launched 170 drones, more than 30 cruise ships, and more than 120 missiles in what General Daniel Hagari described as a "fantastic performance." Several of these rockets reached Israeli territory and caused minor damage to the military base.
A seven-year-old girl was seriously injured in a rocket attack in a Bedouin Arab village in southern Israel, rescuers said, but police were still investigating the boy's injuries.
In Washington, President Joe Biden said the US military had helped shoot down "almost all" Israeli drones and missiles and vowed to meet with allies to engage together.
