Biden calls Netanyahu, calls for quick end to Gaza ceasefire, discusses Cairo negotiations

Biden stressed the importance of the upcoming negotiations in Cairo to overcome the obstacles. The discussion follows Antony Blinken's mission to the Middle East, which failed to secure a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

US President Joe Biden, in a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday (August 21), stressed the need to finalize a ceasefire agreement for the hostages in Gaza.

He said the upcoming negotiations in Cairo are crucial to achieving that goal, according to a White House statement.

"The president emphasized the urgency of concluding the ceasefire agreement and the release of the hostages and discussed the upcoming talks in Cairo to remove all remaining obstacles," the House of Representatives statement said. the Representatives.

Biden and Netanyahu also discussed ongoing US efforts to strengthen Israel's defenses against threats from Iran, including its proxy groups Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis. This includes the current US military deployment in the region, which has been increased in response to rising tensions.
