In-flight refueling, precision strikes: how the Israeli air force hit Hezbollah

The Israeli Air Force carried out a series of precision strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon on Sunday, announcing what Israeli officials described as a large-scale attack. The attacks, which began at 5 p.m. local time, were part of a military campaign aimed at neutralizing the growing threat of Hezbollah along Israel's northern border. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released a video showing the operation, saying: "Our operation in Lebanon targeted the terrorist infrastructure that Hezbollah planned to use against us, protecting families and Israeli houses.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking to his cabinet later in the day, warned that the military action was far from over. "We hit Hezbollah with surprise and crushing blows," Netanyahu said. "This is another step towards changing the situation in the north and the safe return of our residents to their homes. And I repeat, this is not the last word."

Netanyahu highlighted the success of the operation, noting that the army destroyed thousands of short-range rockets, all of which were intended to harm civilians and forces in Israel's Galilee region. He also confirmed that the Israeli military had intercepted all the drones that Hezbollah had launched at a strategic target in central Israel, which Israeli media said was the headquarters of its Mossad spy agency.

More than 100 Israeli warplanes took part in the pre-emptive strike, targeting thousands of Hezbollah rocket launchers in southern Lebanon. The attacks were based on what Israeli officials described as "accurate intelligence" indicating that Hezbollah was ready to launch a massive rocket bombardment in northern Israel, as well as drone strikes on the key information centers.

Immediately after the attacks, Israel declared a 48-hour state of emergency and temporarily closed its main airport, leading to the cancellation of several flights. Despite retaliation by Hezbollah, which fired more than 300 shells into Israel, damage was minimal. Israeli officials said one soldier was killed by the debris, while three deaths were reported in Lebanon. Diplomatic efforts to defuse the wider conflict in the region have continued. Negotiations in Cairo, aimed at establishing a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas in Gaza, went as planned. However, the talks have been strained, with Hamas accusing Israel of imposing new conditions and prolonging the ceasefire negotiations.
