IndiGo flight returns to airport after crew spots overbooked passenger standing at the back

"Then the flight attendants alerted the pilot and the plane returned to the terminal," said Sandeep Pandey, one of the passengers.
Airlines typically overbook to limit the possibility of flights departing with empty seats.
Akhilesh Chaubey, another passenger who was on a work trip to Varanasi, said: “The plane returned to the bay and the passengers were offloaded. The airline then screened the baggage of all passengers on board before proceeding with the departure after a delay of at least an hour," it said. According to flight tracking website Flightradar24, the plane took off at 8:41am.
"An error occurred during boarding for flight 6E 6543 from Mumbai to Varanasi, which resulted in seats reserved for confirmed passengers being assigned to waiting passengers. The error was noticed before the aircraft took off and the waiting passengers were disembarked. This caused a slight delay in the departure of the aircraft. "IndiGo is taking all steps to strengthen its operations and regrets any inconvenience caused to our customers," an airline spokesperson said.
Amit Mishra, another passenger on the same flight, said he reached Varanasi around 10.30am. “To board the 7:50 a.m. flight, you must be at the airport by 6:30 a.m. at the latest without checked baggage. Such delays due to illegal motives of the airlines It must be rectified by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.According to the Civil Aviation Regulations notified by the DGCA in 2016, airlines do not have to pay compensation to passengers if they take an alternative flight.''
