Kim Jong Un observed a salvo of 18 missiles and said it was a warning to South Korea

North Korea said it practically launched 18 short-range ballistic missiles to demonstrate its willingness to launch a preemptive strike against South Korea's "terrorists." State media announced on Friday that the "government" would attack if necessary. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un launched a drill of multiple 600mm "super-large" rockets on Thursday, KCNA reported. The reports came after South Korea said it had detected at least 10 short-range ballistic missiles fired by North Korea off its east coast and that they could be offered to buyers including Russia.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un watched the demonstration at the launch site, where artillery successfully hit a target on an island 365 kilometers (227 miles) away, KCNA reported.

In the images published by the state media, 18 missiles, known by experts as KN-25, are seen rising into the air from a mobile phone.

The "huge" rocket, first tested in 2019, demonstrates the difference between multiple rocket launchers (MLRS) and short-range rockets, according to the International Center for Research and Research. North Korea says these missiles can be equipped with nuclear weapons.

It was stated that Kim Jong Un ordered North Korea's nuclear forces to prepare to wage war against military aggression and to lead in the event of war.

KCNA later announced in English that the "destructive fire" during the exercise showed that North Korea was willing to defend its country and respond to its enemies.

KCNA said the drill used the latest fire control, part of the government's nuclear arms control.
