4 suspected ISIS terrorists from Sri Lanka arrested at Ahmedabad Airport
Gujarat ATS arrested 4 ISIS terrorists of Sri Lankan nationality at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad.
Briefly, ATS said that the four people arrested at the airport were Sri Lankan citizens and ISIS terrorists. The quiz was broadcast by Gujarati TV9. The exact purpose of their stay at Ahmedabad airport is not yet known.
Terrorists reached Ahmedabad from Sri Lanka via Chennai. According to local newspapers, they met with Pakistani officials.
Security has been increased throughout the airport.
The arrests took place before the three IPL teams arrived at Ahmedabad airport for qualification and matches.
In March, two senior leaders of the Islamic State in India were arrested near the international border after passing through Bangladesh. The captured ISIS militant has been identified as Harish Ajmal Faruqui alias Harish Ajmal Farooqui, resident of Dehradun, Uttarakhand and Panipat, Haryana Special resident Anurag Singh (also known as Raihan).
The two men are described as trusted and motivated leaders of ISIS in India; It is involved in various activities such as recruitment and financing of terrorists and organized terrorist attacks using explosive devices (IEDs).
“They are driving the growth of ISIS in India by coordinating the use of IEDs across India to recruit, finance and carry out terrorist activities,” the police said.
According to the STF, multiple cases have been registered against both the National Investigation Agency (NIA), New Delhi, and the Lucknow ATS.
In October last year, Shahnawaz alias Shafi Uzama, a suspected Islamic State terrorist and wanted by the NIA, was arrested in a mass arrest by the Delhi Police from the anti-terrorism agency. Shahnawaz is wanted in connection with the Pune ISIS module case and the NIA has announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh for any credible information leading to his arrest.
