The campaign suggested Iran was to blame. It has not independently verified the identity of the hacker or their motivation.
Former President Donald Trump's campaign team said Saturday that some of its internal communications were hacked.
The acknowledgment comes after it began receiving emails from an anonymous account containing documents from inside the Trump operation. The campaign blamed "foreign sources hostile to the United States," citing a Microsoft report released Friday that Iranian hackers "sent a phishing email in June to a senior presidential campaign official." Microsoft did not identify the targeted email campaign and declined to comment on Saturday. It has not independently verified the identity or motivation of the hacker, and a Trump campaign spokesman, Steven Cheung, declined to say whether he had additional information that would support the campaign's suggestion that he was a target Iranian.
