ED seizes gold valued at Rs 800 crore from businessman in proximity to Dr. Sandeep Ghosh

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) confiscated gold worth Rs 8 crore from a businessperson believed to be linked to Dr. on Saturday. Sandip Ghosh, the ex-head of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Sources in ED, who fetched the businessman from his residence in Salt Lake, indicated that the investigative agency is also examining other relationships where Dr Ghosh would stash the illicit funds acquired from various purported medical frauds.
On Friday, the Enforcement Directorate accompanied a member of Ghosh's team to various assets as part of the investigation, as per reports from the media. On the identical day, ED also carried out raids at the homes of Ghosh and three of his accomplices throughout various places, such as Kolkata and Howrah, as part of the probe.
After the sieges, the organization apprehended Prasun Chatterjee, a nearby assistant of Dr Ghosh. Chatterjee, who was employed as a data input operator at the National Medical College, was also brought to Ghosh's estate in Canning town in West Bengal.
The CBI detained Ghosh and three others on September 2 for suspected financial misconduct at the medical college and hospital. The institution is currently under investigation for the reported sexual assault and homicide of a medical trainee last month.
Authorities reported that three additional individuals taken into custody include Ghosh's security personnel Afsar Ali (44), along with hospital sellers Biplav Singha (52) and Suman Hazara (46) who previously provided supplies to the medical facility.
Sandip Ghosh has been seized under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) by the ED.
In the interim, the medical staff at NRS Medical College and Hospital organized a demonstration to the Governor's residence, urging for their intervention to expedite the inquiry by the CBI.
