One killed in suspected rocket attack on former Manipur CM’s residence

 

One person Slain In Rocket Strike By Kuki Rebels In Manipur's Valley City Moirang: Law Enforcement 

A missile launched by Kuki rebels hit the residence of Manipur's inaugural Prime Minister Mairembam Koireng Singh, only 100 meters from the Indian National Army (INA) Museum in the center of Moirang town. 

A senior gentleman who was engaging in prayers was fatally shot in a rocket-propelled explosive assault by Kuki rebels in Moirang town, Manipur earlier today, according to law enforcement officials. Five additional individuals, including a 13-year-old female, sustained injuries in the assault on the lakeside city in Bishnupur district, located 35 km away from the state's capital Imphal. She is the second underage individual harmed in drone and rocket assaults within the past five days by Kuki rebels. 

Current missile hit the residence of Mairembam Koireng Singh, the inaugural Chief Minister of Manipur, just 100 meters from the Indian National Army (INA) Museum in Moirang town, situated on the shores of the biggest freshwater lake Loktak in the northeast. 

The INA Museum honors Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose; Moirang town is where the INA banner was originally raised on April 14, 1944 on Indian soil. Mairembam Koireng Singh was a freedom warrior and a member of the INA. Following World War II, he was incarcerated and subsequently rose to the position of Manipur's Chief Minister. 

Insiders indicated that the INA Museum was the probable aim of the missile strike. Inhabitants claimed that the rocket originated from the vicinity of the mountains. 

The old gentleman, aged 78, belonging to the Meitei community, RK Rabei, was performing religious rituals when debris from the missile struck his head, as per accounts from nearby residents. He passed away instantly, with blood oozing onto the ground by the religious objects like foliage and produce he had gathered. He sported a white khudei (a traditional garment of the Meiteis) and a white wrap. 

The Manipur authorities have declared a closure of all educational institutions on the following day as a result of the missile and UAV warnings.

This was the second missile assault today by Kuki rebels in the identical region, subsequent to two projectiles being launched this morning from an elevated spot in the nearby mountains in neighboring Churachandpur region, controlled by the Kuki tribes, law enforcement stated. Nobody was hurt during the morning assault, however, two buildings sustained damage, according to authorities. 

The police reported that the distance covered by the rockets that struck the valley region early today was believed to exceed 3 kilometers. 

The authorities stated that Kuki rebels also discharged multiple shots from the mountains towards the Bishnupur region, leading security personnel to respond in kind.
