Comparison of Israel's Layered Missile Defense Systems with the Iranian Arsenal

Iran's Shahab-3 ballistic missile, boasting a range of 2,000 km, poses a significant threat to Israel's security. Iran utilized various types of weaponry to launch attacks on Israel on Tuesday night, including ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones. These weapons have previously been employed to target different regions within the area. It is estimated that approximately 200 ballistic missiles were launched by Iran on Tuesday night. Let us examine this closely. Iran currently possesses a 300-kilometer range missile known as the Shahab-1. This is a short-range missile that lacks the capability to reach Israel. The missile is capable of targeting areas located at a considerable distance from Israel. The Fateh missile, on the other hand, has a range of 300 to 500 km. Once again, the first missile lacks the necessary range to reach Israel.

The Shahab 2 missile, on the other hand, has a longer range of 500 km but still falls short of reaching Israeli targets.

Only the Zolfaghar missile has the capability to possibly reach Israel. This missile has a range of 700 km, allowing it to potentially target areas in Israel. Additionally, the Qiam-1 missile has a range of 750 km, exceeding that of the Shahab-2 by 50 km. The missile in question is of a more advanced nature, capable of targeting additional areas within Israel but not penetrating deep into the country.

However, the Shahab-3, with a range of 2,000 km, has the capability to effectively strike all of Israel. It has the potential to impact multiple regions in the area. The missile under discussion may have been utilized in the recent attacks on Tuesday. Israel possesses advanced ballistic missile defense systems. It is a hierarchical defense mechanism that was evidently penetrated last evening. Videos have captured Iranian missiles striking Tel Aviv. Iran has also published footage depicting the launch of ballistic missiles from its land. The extent of their accuracy and the possibility of impacts from intercepted fragments remain unclear. When discussing Israeli surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) used in defense, it is important to consider the range and altitude at which these interceptor missiles operated to neutralize Iranian ballistic missiles. To begin, let us examine Israel's Arrow system. It is a component of a system, thus the terms missile and system are utilized interchangeably.

When discussing SAM systems, it is important to consider their range and altitude capabilities. Israel's Arrow system, for example, is designed to intercept incoming ballistic missiles in the exosphere, which is located just outside the atmosphere. The range of the response that will be generated falls between 2,000 and 2,400 kilometers. The system can reach an impressive altitude of up to 100 km, making it possibly the most advanced in its class globally. Other systems may have been utilized to intercept Iranian missiles last night. Let us now examine the following system, known as David's Sling. It is capable of flying up to a distance of 300 km and reaching an altitude of approximately 15 kilometers for interception purposes. Lastly, the focus of discussion centers around the Iron Dome. It is a missile system with a relatively short range. When discussing Israel's capabilities, the Iron Dome system is often highlighted as a key component.

The Iron Dome is integrated into the comprehensive missile defense system as the final layer of protection. The aircraft is capable of reaching an altitude of 10 kilometers and can travel up to a distance of approximately 70 kilometers. It is not ideal for intercepting ballistic missiles. The system is more capable of intercepting short-range rockets such as those launched by Hamas and Hezbollah. It is evident that some breaches have occurred in the system. However, numerous lives have been spared, with the predominant impact reportedly occurring at Israeli military installations.
