The U.S. is in talks about potential Israeli attacks on Iran's oil facilities

The U.S. is in talks about potential Israeli attacks on Iran's oil facilities while Israel continues its military campaign in Lebanon. Israel's representatives at the United Nations are actively engaged in these discussions. Ambassador Danny Danon stated in an interview with CNN on Thursday that his country possesses numerous retaliatory options and will soon demonstrate its strength to Tehran.

President Joe Biden stated on Thursday that there are discussions regarding potential strikes on Iran's oil facilities in response to Tehran's missile attack on Israel. Meanwhile, Israel's military carried out new air strikes on Beirut as part of its ongoing conflict with Lebanese armed group Hezbollah.

As Israel considers its next steps following Iran's recent large-scale assault, Biden was questioned about whether he would endorse Israel's targeting of Iran's oil facilities.

"We are currently engaging in discussions about that," Biden informed reporters.

Biden's remarks led to a spike in global oil prices, with escalating tensions in the Middle East raising concerns among traders about potential disruptions in the oil supply.

"Nothing is expected to occur today," Biden reassured. On Wednesday, the president announced his opposition to an Israeli military strike on Iran's nuclear facilities. Israel's representative at the U.N. Ambassador Danny Danon informed CNN on Thursday that his country possesses numerous retaliatory measures and intends to demonstrate its power to Tehran in the near future.

An official in Washington stated that Israel has not yet determined its response to Iran. The southern suburb of Dahiye in Beirut, a stronghold of the Hezbollah group backed by Iran, experienced additional strikes near midnight on Thursday. Residents and security sources reported that Israel had instructed people to evacuate certain areas of the district. The air raids specifically targeted Hashem Safieddine, a Hezbollah official believed to be the successor to the late Hassan Nasrallah, in an underground bunker. This information was shared by Axios reporter Barak Ravid, who referenced three Israeli officials.

Safieddine confirmed that his fate was uncertain. The Israeli military declined to provide a statement. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel pledged that Iran would be held accountable for the missile attack on Tuesday, while Washington expressed its intention to collaborate with the ally to ensure Iran faced severe repercussions. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in Doha, asserted on Thursday that Tehran was prepared to retaliate. He stated, "Our armed forces will deliver a decisive response to any form of military attack, terrorist act, or violation of our red lines."
