Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena made a big move and laid off 223 employees of the National Capital Women's Commission. It is alleged that AAP MP Swati Maliwal made this appointment in violation of the law while she was the chairperson of the Delhi Women's Commission.
Ms. Maliwal criticized the Lieutenant Governor's policy, saying that the women's board would be closed down if all agency workers were fired. The team currently has 90 employees, she said. Eight of them are from the government and the rest are on three-month contracts. "Why are they doing this? This organization survives with blood and sweat." Asking the police chief to put her in jail, the woman continued: "I will not allow the Women's Department to be closed. Put me in jail, but do not torture women." It was stated that with the Women's Commission Law, the commission has 40 decision-making powers and 223 new jobs were created without the approval of the Deputy Governor. The decision also states that the group does not have the right to hire contract workers. The decision is based on a February 2017 investigative report submitted by then-Lt.
In the decision of the Vice Presidency of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, it was also stated that important projects were not evaluated before the appointment. The decision stated that the board of directors was informed that it was not allowed to take any steps that would "create additional debt for the government" without the approval of the Ministry of Finance. The investigation showed that the appointments were not made in accordance with the prescribed procedures. “Furthermore, the salary increments and allowances of DCW employees are not fair enough and violate established procedures and standards,” he added.
Ms. Maliwal chaired the Delhi Women's Commission for nine years before entering the Lok Sabha as an AAP MP. The team president position is not currently available. The decision stated that Ms. Maliwal was repeatedly asked to obtain approval from the financial institution for these appointments.
