Another escalation in Manipur

Thangjam Basant, aged 34, was forced to leave his village of Koutruk in the Imphal West district of Manipur, which is adjacent to the Kangpokpi district dominated by the Kuki tribes, for the second time.

I was taking care of my younger sibling, who was wounded by bomb fragments. "When I got back, everything was completely destroyed," Mr Basant sobbed, belonging to the Meitei community which primarily resides in the valley, as he shared with NDTV.

In a recent outbreak of violence yesterday at the border between two districts, two individuals lost their lives and 10 others, including a minor, law enforcement officers, and a journalist, were wounded in gunfire and explosives attacks carried out by drones believed to be operated by Kuki rebels. The assault on Koutruk occurred following a period of peace that lasted for a few months.

Many individuals who had evacuated their residences during the ethnic conflicts in May 2023 and had recently come back, found themselves having to flee once again on Monday. This has sparked concerns regarding the safety of towns situated in the lower regions.

A woman who was at her mother's residence lost her life on Sunday. Her daughter, who is twelve years old, was struck in the hand.

I visited my home in the AM and discovered the rug they had utilized. It was covered in blood spots and clumps of her hair. "My sister-in-law came to see us after a while," Thokchom Anu mentioned, revealing that Ngangbam Surbala, 31, who was shot in the head by alleged Kuki rebels, shared this information on Monday.
