The Republican Presidential Nominee, Donald Trump, made it clear on Friday that he is not aligned with the far-right conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer, who has recently been accompanying him on his campaign trips. Her involvement with Trump’s inner circle had stirred up resentment among his associates and officials at the White House. While Trump tried to create some separation from Loomer, he refrained from publicly denouncing her, according to Reuters. Loomer enjoys a sizable following of 1.2 million individuals on the social media site X. The previous year, a conspiracy theorist published a video asserting that the 9/11 attacks on September 11, 2001, were orchestrated internally.
Loomer has revised her stance on the matter, stating in an interview with CNN that the individuals responsible for the attack were identified as "Islamic Terrorists". The Trump campaign issued a statement on Friday in an effort to create separation. The statement indicated that Trump disagreed with Loomer's previous remarks but appreciated her endorsement. The ex-president clarified that Loomer is not employed by the campaign, despite accompanying the entourage on the plane for the previous week. Trump addressed a question regarding Loomer during a press conference at his Southern California golf club. He described her as a "strong person" with "strong opinions," referring to her as a "free spirit." Loomer was present at the presidential debate in Philadelphia on Tuesday and in New York the following day to honor the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
At a Las Vegas rally on Friday, Trump claimed he had received information that his opponent Kamala Harris had been using a covert earpiece during the recent presidential debate. This unfounded conspiracy theory was endorsed on X by Loomer. The conspiracy theorist caused controversy earlier this week by posting about X, leading to backlash. In the post, Loomer stated that if Harris, of Indian descent, won the November 5 elections, the White House would have the aroma of curry and White House speeches would be managed through a call center.
The post drew condemnation from White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre, who labeled it as "racist poison" and criticized Trump for his connection to Loomer. Trump faced criticism from fellow party members such as US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene and US Senators Lindsey Graham. Thom Tillis also criticized Loomer following her remarks about Harris. Tillis expressed on X that Loomer is described as a conspiracy theorist who often makes divisive remarks targeted at Republicans.
During a separate occasion, Loomer endorsed Trump's controversial views on immigrants entering the US illegally while the former president was in California.
She subsequently declared, "I am a dedicated supporter of President Trump." In a subsequent post on Friday, she asserted that Republicans criticizing her were envious of her association with Trump, which they lacked.
A Florida native, Loomer also made unsuccessful bids for Congress twice. She also has a lengthy background of conveying Islamophobic attitudes. This behavior led to the suspension of her Twitter account at that time. The ban was subsequently lifted following the acquisition of the company by Elon Musk, who rebranded it as X.
