Telangana and Andhra Pradesh experiencing heavy rainfall: 140 train services called off, 26 NDRF squads dispatched; IMD releases climate alert

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are experiencing severe flooding, where rivers have expanded and both national and state disaster response teams have relocated numerous individuals to relief shelters.

Torrential rain pounded Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, resulting in the loss of life in rain-related incidents. The heavy rainfall flooded several areas, causing disruptions to both road and train transportation.

In both regions, rivers have swollen and national and state emergency response teams have moved thousands of individuals to shelter camps.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a caution that additional precipitation is probable in various regions of the two states.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had a conversation with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana CM A Revanth Reddy, guaranteeing them of every conceivable assistance from the central administration.

The minister of revenue in Telangana, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, announced that nine individuals have passed away in incidents related to the rain in the state. In Suryapet, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahbubabad, and Khammam, the authorities relocated inhabitants of numerous villages affected by flooding to secure locations.

The Chief Minister of Telangana, Revanth Reddy, conducted an impromptu evaluation session on Sunday. Hyderabad, in the meantime, also experienced severe precipitation, resulting in flooding in numerous areas throughout the city. The authorities decided to close down every educational institution in the area on September 2nd. In Khammam, numerous individuals found themselves marooned on the tops of buildings as a result of flooding.

In Telangana, the condition could deteriorate in certain districts. The meteorological department issued a red alert on Sunday for intense to extremely strong rainfall in specific areas of Adilabad, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Kamareddy, and Mahabubnagar districts in Telangana until 8:30 am on September 2nd.

Many locations in Andhra Pradesh are also anticipated to experience precipitation, with the possibility of intense rainfall in certain areas. There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in certain areas of Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, Parvatipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Kakinada, and Nandyala districts, according to a statement from an official.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu stated that Vijayawada and Guntur cities were entirely surrounded by water. Because of the intense rainfall, the cities of Vijayawada and Guntur are completely inundated. "The national highway between Vijayawada and Guntur was flooded at Kaza, while the highway between Vijayawada and Hyderabad was also closed due to water logging at Jaggaiahpet," he mentioned. Jaggaiahpet experienced 26 centimeters of precipitation in a 24-hour period, with 14 districts recording more than 20 centimeters of rainfall, he stated.

As per the CM, the floodwater that was meant to be redirected to Kolleru Lake was now flowing towards Vijayawada. Naidu stated that they are strengthening the area downstream of Prakasam Barrage using sandbags and other methods, and have notified the district collectors.

He claimed that 17,000 individuals were relocated to 107 emergency shelters. He stated that 110,000 hectares of agricultural land and 7,360 hectares of horticultural land suffered damage.

The South Central Railway (SCR) zone, based in Secunderabad and covering the Vijayawada Division, has called off 140 trains and rerouted 97 others on Sunday, according to PTI.

The Central government has sent out 26 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to assist with flood relief and rescue efforts in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. While a dozen teams are currently stationed in the adjacent states, an additional fourteen are in the process of being sent out.
