The conflict between the Bengal government and BJP escalated following chaos at a meeting with Mamata Banerjee; TMC MP criticized protesters as being 'unfit' to practice medicine.

The criticism from Trinamool Congress came after junior doctors in Kolkata declined a meeting with the state government due to their request for the meeting to be livestreamed.

Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee condemned the junior doctors for their refusal to engage in discussions with the state government and labeled them as 'inhumane' and 'unsuitable' for the profession of medicine. He also urged the West Bengal government to ensure that they are not allowed to appear for their final exams.

The outburst came after the junior doctors, even after reaching the gates of the state secretariat Nabanna, refused to hold talks with the state government unless their demand for live streaming of the meeting to resolve the RG Kar hospital impasse was met.

Doctors across the state have been on strike since August 9 demanding justice for the junior doctor who was raped and murdered in RG Kar Hospital last month.

Mamata Banerjee, who waited for nearly two hours for the agitating doctors to come for the meeting, expressed regret over the junior doctors' refusal to come for talks. She also extended her willingness to step down from her position.

"I am puzzled by the inhuman conduct of these medical professionals." Kalyan Banerjee emphasized the necessity for the state government to prohibit the protesting junior doctors from participating in their final examinations. Rajya Sabha MP, Saket Gokhale, expressed similar sentiments. In a communication on X, Gokhale praised the dedication of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, noting her exceptional commitment to engaging in dialogue with protestors. The issue at hand is that the protest appears to have been taken over by the CPM and BJP, with a shift in focus from resolution to prolonging the impasse. Junior doctors should understand that they are being used by the BJP and CPM as pawns. He expressed concern that the high level of politicization is causing great suffering for hundreds of thousands of patients.
